Yair Solan received his Ph.D. in English from the CUNY Graduate Center in June 2017, with doctoral certificates in American Studies and Film Studies. He specializes in nineteenth- and twentieth-century American literature, film studies, and media archaeology. His articles have appeared or are forthcoming in Modernism/modernity, Journal of the Short Story in English, and Studies in American Naturalism. He has contributed and collaborated on commentary tracks for the Blu-ray/DVD release of Buster Keaton’s The Navigator (Kino Lorber) and for the Becoming Charley Chase DVD collection (VCI Entertainment). His recently completed dissertation examines American writers’ critical engagement with the screen from pre-cinematic media to early motion pictures.
