Dear English and Writing Colleagues,

Please find below the call for papers for the annual New York College English Association conference. The conference will take place October 19-20, 2018 at Plaza College in Queens, NY.

This year’s conference theme is  “Embedding English: Literature and Writing in Every Field.”

We are a regional organization of the College English Association, and our annual conference provides a welcoming environment for faculty and graduate students presenting papers.

·       We provide a collegial, local, and inexpensive conference venue.

·       Our conferences cost approximately $70 for registration as well as a one-year membership to NYCEA for $15.

·       All papers are presented on Saturday, so the conference is accessible to faculty and grad students in the area without a hotel stay.

·        We offer a $200 prize for the best grad student paper each year and feature a panel focused on getting a job.

The New York College English Association announces a call for papers for their annual conference. The theme this year is “Embedding English: Literature and Writing in Every Field”, and the conference will take place October 19-20, 2018, at Plaza College in Queens, New York.

This year’s NYCEA conference will explore the intersection of English with other majors, fields, and disciplines. How does literature connect with different fields? How is writing essential to other majors? In what ways can literature and writing improve the work of students and professionals in all disciplines?

Proposals are welcomed to examine the influence of literature and writing within various fields, helping to enrich every aspect of our culture and society. Submissions are welcome from professors in any discipline and from any location.

-Literature that illuminates aspects of work in other fields

-Collaborative teaching among English and other disciplines

-Assessing writing in courses other than English

-The value of leisure reading

-Subject matter reading as literature

-Engaging students of all majors in reading and writing beyond the classroom

-Expanding the canon across cultures

-Using theory and critical analysis beyond literature class

-Incorporating alternate forms of literature and art in the classroom

-Bringing professors from other disciplines into the English classroom

-Effects of technology on the teaching of writing in all disciplines
