DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE MAJOR CHANGES TO THE WAC (5TH YEAR) FELLOWSHIP?

If you’re unclear, the basics are:

They (CUNY Central & Interim President Joy Connolly) are changing our title from GAB to GAA for the 2019-2020 WAC cohort (current 4th years) AND ALL SUBSEQUENT COHORTS so that contractually

  1. We make the same amount of money for twice the amount of labor (7.5hrs–>15hrs) and
  1. We can NOT take on any other work in the CUNY system

This means your salary in the CUNY system will be capped at $27k. For international students, this means ALL the money they can legally make making it likely that they cannot continue in the program. Moreover, this is a double workload in the year in which we are ideally finishing up or making a sprint toward completing the dissertation.

Angry yet?  COME TO THE ACTION MEETING on Wed 6 November at 1:30 (room at GC TBA) when we will decide how to proceed with the current cohort’s applications and plan an action to force Joy Connolly to act. Our union chapter is working to permanently change the contract language to protect this and all future cohorts.  We need to show a united and mobilized student body if we are going to change this language.
